Hello!

After a break for the holidays, we’ll be hosting another multi-lingual/multi-cultural open mic night at Cafe de Bella on Thursday, February 19th at 8:00 pm. Please arrive a few minutes early to get a delicious banh mi sandwich, drink or smoothie. For more information, click here.

As before, the open mic is a perfect forum for:

acoustic music

stories

jokes

poetry

freestyle

Please email mana.austin@gmail.com with questions!

See you there!

Though we were a little concerned that no one would come or perform, we were relieved when the performers, and then performers’ friends gathered together. We all looked at each other and acknowledged that something would actually happen that night. Then, to our great delight, a contingent from the Austin Church of Christ showed up, ready to participate and engage. You couldn’t ask for a better group for an audience!

I told a story or two, and Steve Hilderbrand read a few Sci-Ku poems, and sang an original song. Then Stephan Baley read some very rich and interesting poetry, and then we had a good ol’ fashioned sing a long to “Hit the Bricks” by Racoon. To finish the night, Wendy Mitchell gave us several of her quirky and emotional songs to end the performance. After the performance, every one stayed and talked and laughed and got to know each other better. I’d say it felt like a party more than an open mic!

We have to give big thanks to Tina at Cafe de Bella for hosting us! Several people enjoyed Banh Mi and smoothies which all looked amazing.

Because the Winter Holidays are now upon us, it will be wise to hold off until January to do the next Open Mic, and then do it every month in 2009. If you’d like to be on the email list notifying people when that date in January will be, please email us at mana.austin@gmail.com

Thanks for your interest and support!
Kristin
